The pound have come back for Simba again (South Auckland). Because the family refused to hand her over (knowing her slaughter would help the pound achieve it's weekly financial kill target) they were slapped with a $200 fine.
A visitor had come to the property with his dog. The visitor is not a good owner and his dog suffers as a result. As the dog knows Simba, and has spent a lot of time with her he knows she is a top treasured pet here. His life is miserable and precarious in comparison. Simba ambled out to see who her family were greeting at the gate. Only some people know what the visitors dog had just been subjected to - this owner should be prosecuted. The dog jumped on Simba - the owners immediately pulled them apart. The owner left with his dog, Simba had bite marks on her head and ears.
Within 5 mins the pound were there. The neighbours had reported a dog fight. The pound demanded Simba be handed over. The owner tried to explain what had happened. He was immediately told quote "Dont give us that crap - hand the dog over". If you are very rich you would not be spoken to like this. A child, a cell phone and Simba disappeared over a side fence. If you are very rich you could afford a lawyer and you would not have to do this. The owner was given a $200 infringement notice re the "dog fight". The pound can baynet this family if they do not pay.
The NZ kill pounds know which families to hone in on to achieve their financial targets. The kill pounds give the guidelines for targeting these families in the training of their new dog catchers. Most people who dislike animals can perfect this skill in their first week on the road. It is easy to steal from the poor. Good owners be warned.
ie, kill pounds assess your age and the age of your dog, within 2 mins of meeting you both. This is the start....there are many many tactics up their sleeve.

I would love to see the
I would love to see the references to these "kill policies" and "kill incentives" that are continously mentioned on this site.
Everyone seems convinced the companies involved recieve money for killing dogs and have a weekly target yet not one single person has provided any referance as to where they obtained this information.
Frankly I think most of the crap on this website is made up
That dog looks nasty, look
That dog looks nasty, look how the ears are back, that is one aggressive dog, the owners should be ashamed (though im sure theyre just as bad)
I dont believe the ranger
I dont believe the ranger would have said "Dont give us that crap - hand the dog over".
Im sure the rangers have a procedure and get statements from the person that complained to them and also the dog owner and any witnessess.
If your dog was registered and well confined i do not see why they would have taken it.
I dont think it matters if your rich or poor.
If your visitor is not a good owner and the dog suffers from this, why have you not call the spca?
Good responsable owners have
Good responsable owners have their dogs always currently registered and confined to their properties. I always find the money to register my dog and love and care enough about my dog to always have him confined and with me at all times. People who feel they need to bad mouth people and organisations who are trying to do good obviously have no idea what is actually goes on.
Stories like these happen
Stories like these happen all the time, I have no doubt. We visited the South Auckland Animal Control pound in Jan 09. My partner and I were firstly, shocked at the conditions of the holding kennels - as soon as we walked in to the reception you could smell the stench and then when we went through to view the animals there was poo all in their cages and in two of the kennels poo was in their water bowls. AND OMG... the young male Animal Control Officer physically kicked and landed his boot on one the cages in which one dog was barking to try and make it be quiet - gross cruelty! If that wasn't enough, while waiting in reception some people came in to check if their dog was still there (and alive) sadly, the Animal Control Officer told them "no - your dog has been put down". This family left the reception and said "we told you guys we were coming down with the money to pay to get our dog out" and "we asked for an extension - you arseholes". The Animal Control Office agreed "yes, we gave you an extension, but two weeks is too long" and the poor family said "we were trying to get the money together, it takes time". And if this, wasn't enough another couple came in and said that their dog had been picked up again and made statements such as "why are you guys harrassing us" and "you come round our house and just pick on us all the time". We had only been at the pound for about 20 minutes and all this happened...imagine if we had stayed another hour. My partner and I then went out to Waitakere City Council pound and were impressed, compared to the South Auckland Animal Control...Waitakere City Council Animal Management had clean kennels, no smell when you walked in and they were very pleasant - very different to Manukau City Council.
We belive, if people make an effort to be in contact with Animal Control to get their dog out of the pound and require time to get the finances together...then they should be allowed time and a payment arrangement to get their dog out.
We believe that dogs should have clean kennels and clean water to drink at Animal Control, Manukau.
We believe people should not be harrased by Animal Control. Instead Animal Control should study and adopt the animal welfare and welbeing approach used in the United States and England. It's about education and animal adoption progammes that match people to pooch correctly.
We belive that Manukau City Council Animal Control should go and visit Waitakere City Council pound and take notice.

England has no animal control...and as a result wandering dogs, people being bitten and other dogs/cats being attacked is fairly common, to a point where it has gotten so out of control they are now draughting up a "Dog Control act" and starting animal control companies...the country they are looking to model this on as they see it as the most effective? - New Zealand
USA's animal control is much, MUCH harsher than NZ's, they have the power of arrest and carry guns, they impound CATS for wandering and deal with the public in a very abusive way.
You should do some research before you post on here
