Story known to this website for sometime. Dog owner posts up to date court transcripts
and correspondence regularly.
In essence this is being run by the NZ Police. This is a welfare issue. The Police
decided at the start they would deal with this and that they would be the welfare experts. As a result the NZ taxpayer has unbeknowingly paid approx $33,000 annually to police crown solicitors to defend in court as to why the police took the dog. The dog has been held in storge for 3 years hence the +++ in costs. We understand approx $22,000
has now been accumulated in storage costs due ongoing. This is on top of the $100,000
legal fees already paid to date.
The police have dragged this out, as initially the dog owners car drivers license was just taken from him for drink driving. The owner does not drink, so spent months in court stating the police refused to breath/blood test him - his doctor has waited for 3 years to appear as a witness in court to testify re this. The police keep saying there is a loophole in the law so didnt need to alcohol test him - nor require his witnesses. Judges accept this.
The owner wanted to see his dog following this, so the police colluded with another party and lied under oath in court, stating the dog had been rehomed,(court transcripts
show all this).
After some time the owner discovered his dog had not been rehomed and stated in writing he would visit his dog. His reply was "you step one foot on these premises and you will be arrested, we now have a non trespass order against you".
The dog is coping fine after 3 years in a holding cell, which is pretty amazing as her keepers state "most dogs would not cope with this". This dog can, because she knows
what could come back to her, she would get her dad back and she just loves her dads food. Her Dad gives her what he eats, no supermarket stuff, no processed foods. She has
cat friends who miss her. The police and judicial system have not even met her, she does not matter as long as the crown solicitors are continuously paid - and they will always be as the NZ taxpayers keep paying out.
The owner has asked for media coverage. Surely the NZ animal aware public have a right to know about this. The owners current appeal process continues, hence mounting costs
to the taxpayer. Does the girl need to go through all of this just because the police state here at the end of the day they are the NZ welfare experts and the judiciary
carry on with this. Animal welfare recognised people surely can speak for this girl.

Court transcripts show the
Court transcripts show the police were prepared to get rid of the dog by buying her to use as a drug sniffing dog. This is ok for the police as it would pay some of her
storage costs off, and ok for most taxpayers re this cost still ongoing for storage.
But the gap is large. The owner is still due his girl back, plus apology re removing his drivers license to hinder him seeing his dog (impounded 2hrs drive from where her legal guardian lives) and how does $100,000 get paid back to the NZ taxpayer.
