A Typical Ken Muir Cash Cow

Photo to be posted.

The above dog is the 9th dog known of to be owned by this family.
The previous 8 were slaughtered by Ken Muirs dog slaughter business,
the above dog will also be slaughtered shortly - also for non registration.

Ken Muirs dog catchers regularly visit this house, take the latest dog and the family are fined another $300 non registration fine. Then the family get another dog and the process is repeated. To date they have paid $2,400 in non registration fines. When the above beautiful natured perfectly rehomable dog is slaughtered another $300 fine will be in the post.

The ratepayer dips out on the annual registration fee, the dog slaughter company gets richer, the family learn nothing. NZ's dog welfare act is out of control.

Why didn't they register

Why didn't they register their dog then?
If they can't afford registration they certainly can't afford food, vet bills, vacinations, flea/worm treatment...this is no life for a dog.
This is the owners fault, if you can't afford a dog you shouldn't own one, end of!

I was sent a link to this

I was sent a link to this site, and as an avid dog lover, many of the stories here horrify me.

But I disagree with the website's headline statement that dog ownership is for anyone who wants to own one. I disagree vehemently, and this story illustrates why.

Dog ownership is on a par with having children in my book, and those who bring children into poverty without the means to properly provide for them and support them, are guilty of abuse from day one of that child’s life. There is no excuse for bringing another life into an existence of deprivation.

Likewise, those who take on a dog without the financial means or appropriate resources to pay the licence fee required by New Zealand law (and who else should pay for our animal welfare services if not dog owners?), offer it quality food, shelter and companionship, should not own dogs. If they cannot pay the registration fee, there is very little chance of the dog receiving veterinary care when it needs it, nevermind quality food – and by that I mean balanced food, in sufficient quantities to keep it healthy, rather than a poor diet of scraps fed only as and when they’re available.

'Love' alone is not enough, and neglect is inexcusable, regardless of intention.

However, in fighting the kill-all policy of the city council, this site is doing good work bringing these policies to light, and with the new ‘Super City’ coming into being, all Auckland animal lovers will now need to fight to ensure this same company is not given free rein to kill Auckland-wide. It’s just a shame that work is being undermined by condoning those who can barely feed and clothe their own children owning dogs. Dogs are a huge responsibility and they cost money. There’s no way around that, no way that’s fair on the dog.

Anyone surviving on a benefit, should be leaving dog ownership aside until they have an income (i.e. a JOB) to sustain those costs - or should only take one on if they are absolutely certain they can budget for not only its registration, but its neutering and on-going veterinary care as required. In the case of ‘rescuing’ a dog, that is another matter in the short term, but not in the long term. Ultimately, if they intend to keep the dog once it has been rescued, they need to be able to offer a life better than the one it has left.

The massive, wandering, un-neutered dog population of South Auckland needs to be reduced, and that can’t be changed with dogs in the hands of people who won’t register or neuter them. Until that time, there will always be large numbers of dogs needing to be rescued, and the cycle will continue unchecked

So why didnt they pay to get

So why didnt they pay to get the first dog back and its registration, would have been a lot cheaper than $2,400 and would have saved the lives of the other 8 dogs! That is purely the owners fault after the first dog, they cannot say they didnt know it was the LAW to register your dog that is older than 3mths old! They are sickenly self people

OMG you would think the

OMG you would think the owners what have learnt a lesson and registered their dogs!!!.
This is their own fault.
How many dogs will they own, not register and get taken before they finally get it.
People like this should not own bloody dogs.
They are the ones that are killing their own dogs by not obeying the law like responsible dog owners out there that do register their dogs.
NO SYMPATHY FOR THIS FAMILY AT ALL.
The family must be stupid if they havnt learnt anything by now.

Anyone in NZ can own a dog.

Anyone in NZ can own a dog. This family is just a drop in the ocean of the now thousands doing this.
It is a shame the dog must give its life up because they simply will take no responsibility (in any area for the dogs well being). Many welfarists say - let them keep the current "stuff up" and show them how to do it properly, ie educate them on the current dog they are messing up on - rather than kill this one when everyone knows they will get another one and another one.

How about they pay

How about they pay registration then and dont blame someone else?

Take some responsibility loser.

TOTALLY AGREE And who is to

TOTALLY AGREE

And who is to blame for the death of their 9th dog. They are..... I guess this answers the question to the name of this website????????? I'm thinking NO they can't. I wonder if you visited their house, what would be the chance of them having SKY TV, 42 inch TV and a nice Holden in the driveway.... They should be banned from owning dogs.
