" I live in Papatoetoe and recently one of my dogs barked, which usually means somethings up. I am retired and feel safe because if they bark there is always something up. In 5 mins the dog catchers were at the front door saying they had a NEIGHBOUR COMPLAINT THAT A DOG HAD BARKED. Both of my dogs were loaded in the van and they were gone. They werent registered because I dont have much money left over every week and I asked if I could pay off the registration like I do with all my other bills but they just wouldnt let me. They said pay the cash in 7days or we kill your dogs.
I was beside myself and cried and cried. They wouldnt tell me how much it was, they said I had to ring the pound. The woman at the pound said it would be about $500, I pleaded with her to pay it off. She then said I could halve my cost, by letting them kill one of them but I had to choose which of my babies they would be killing.
I told her my cousin had gone to a community law centre lecture series and the person from the Manukau City Council who gave the talk on dog control info said in extreme financial circumstances registration could be paid off. The pound woman said "this person had absolutely no right to say this because DSSLTD SET THE RULES NOT THE COUNCIL". She demanded the persons name.
I had to borrow the money off a family member who I knew was saving for his wedding so I feel terrible about this, because he knew it would break my heart so much if they killed them. My old dog just lay on his bed for days when he came home, he was so depressed. It was like his emotions had gone. I just know he really thought he was going to be killed, he had to sit there for 5 days and watch and hear all the other dogs around him screaming and screaming every morning as they are dragged into the filthy slaughter room in this filthy dog genocide camp".

Owning a dog is a privalige not a right, if you love your dog, you will register your dog, if your dog is taken away because you failed to register it is your own fault, you have let your dog down

I have always had dogs and I have never been rich. I don't know much about barking complaints, but I do know that as a dog owner, registration is part and parcel of owning a dog. You say you don't have much money left over at the end of each week, neither do I. I put away $5-00 every 2 weeks out of my meazly wages which I can use to pay the registration fees for my dogs. It doesn't cover the total amount but at least when registration time comes around, I'm not struggling to find large sums of money.
I cannot afford to pay late fees and fines. I don't agree with councils registration policy, but I will not put my dogs at risk to make a point.
Sounds like you've had your dogs for awhile, so you know the rules. It was you that got your dogs taken away. It was you that put your dogs at risk, you would pay for your cousins wedding present before your own babies registration.....well, guess I know where your responsibilties lay.
I suggest you start putting away that loose change now and cut the sob stories. Your dogs, your responsibilty.

There is no excuse for not registering your dog. Poor or not!!
I do not have much money left either but i manage to put a little bit aside so i have enough to register my 2 dogs every year.
Not worth getting them impounded and then paying for a registration anyway to get them out, plus impounding fees, feeding costs and a fine!!!!
I do not feel sorry for anyone that does not register their dog and it gets taken.
Dont get a dog if you cant afford toi register it.

NZ law states the dog must be registered. But why does the dog have to be inhumanely slaughtered if the owners have no comprehension of what you and every other good dog owner would know?.

But still, is killing the dog an appropriate response for what is essentially a non issue? Why are we registering our dogs in the first place? We come up with a nonsensical rule, and enforce it with the penalty of death. Is that right?

I support people who don't register their dogs.Are people required to register their cats? Of course not and they make just as much mess as loose dogs do.people who let their cats wander are just as irresponsable as dog owners who do the same thing

How about unborn babies killed when their mothers get toxoplasmosis from cleaning the cat litter out? What about babies smothered in their cots by cats trying to get the best sleeping spots? Don't prattle on about cats like they're little saints, most lick their butts then lick your face.... Nice?!

Actually i DO agree that cat owners need to be more responsible about their pets.If i see any stray cats in my section i do my best to scare them off.If they are so stupid to come back,they DON'T get the chance to do it a third time.I see so many messages on the tardme website about cats going missing.Sheesh,get a life you morons and take more care of your cats

I have had my first rwo encounters with Animal managemnet which turned out to be nice ones thank goodness.The first one was when i went to the Silverdale pound to rescue a female german shepherd and the second one was with a ranger who came to look at my section for a dog license.She looked very officious but is a nice person.A credit to her job.The next day one of the mongrels from that crowd run by that Muir arsehole turned up to do the same job.What a mix up
