Don't be passive while companies roam the street to take any dog they can. Except the dangerous ones. Here are some suggestions.
- Call your councillor.
Although the law allows dog control officers to enter any property for all and sundry reasons, it does not mean we have to wait until parliament gets around to think about the consequences of the law it passed. Local councils can execute this law how they wish, and it doesn't require much to be much better than the minimum standards required by the law.
Read our What we want page and ask your local councillor to do all he can so dog owners and dogs are treated with respect.
- If you're a resident of Manukau City, sign the petition.
- Call your local MP.
There must be changes at the national level as well, see our What we want page for the list. Changes at the local level ar not enough as not all councils might be supportive of a change that is clearly necessary.
- Make a submission to the Draft Annual Plan 2007/2008 of your local council.
Submission guidelines for Manukau City are here.
- Send your story to us.
You must give us verifiable contact details (but we will not publish those) and we love to have a picture of your dog and possibly yo on the site.
